Too little, too late? Darron Gibson makes first Premier League start of the season

Could the Derry man make a late push for a Euro 2016 call-up?

A MIX OF INJURIES, suspensions and rotation has paved the way for Ireland international Darron Gibson to make his first Premier League appearance of 2016 against Southampton at Goodison Park this afternoon.

Everton and Roberto Martinez are facing one of their biggest weeks of the season so far, as they face Merseyside rivals Liverpool on Wednesday in the league before taking on Manchester United three days later in the FA Cup semi-final.

With that in mind Martinez has decided to rest veteran midfielder Gareth Barry, Ross Barkley is carrying a slight knock and is on the bench, while an injury for Tom Cleverly means he misses out completely.

Fellow Irish midfielder James McCarthy is suspended after picking up a red card against Crystal Palace in midweek.
