SHAMROCK ROVERS HAVE announced further positive news on the personnel front as they put plans in place for next season.

It has been confirmed by the club that defender Simon Madden has extended his contract with the Hoops, while Darren Meenan is also set to play at Tallaght Stadium next season after signing a pre-contract agreement.

Meenan will join Rovers from Dundalk, having spent the last four seasons with the dominant SSE Airtricity League Premier Division champions.

“We have got one of the best wingers in the country in Darren Meenan. His record over the last five or six years shows that,” said Shamrock Rovers head coach Stephen Bradley.

“He makes things happen on the pitch, his levels of assists are incredible and he scores goals too. He’s a top player and a great pro. We are delighted to have him.”

Meenan — who has previously played for St Pat’s, UCD, Sligo Rovers, Drogheda United, Shelbourne, Monaghan United and Finn Harps — made 112 league appearances for Dundalk and missed just one game during their march to a League and League Cup double in 2014.

Capped by Northern Ireland at U21 level, the 30-year-old most recently played for Dundalk when they defeated Bohemians last month to secure a third Premier Division title in a row.

Madden will stay with Rovers for a fourth season. The 28-year-old right-back has started 98 Premier Division games in succession, more than other outfield player.

Stephen Bradley said: “I am delighted that Simon has agreed to stay on at the club. There was a lot of interest in him from other clubs so we are delighted that he sees his future at Shamrock Rovers. He is a great professional and I think is the best right-back in the country.”

With Rovers aiming to improve on this season’s fourth-place finish for 2017, the Hoops on Friday announced the signings of Roberto Lopes, Ryan Connolly, Paul Corry and Daniel Devine.
