Cardiff Blues on the hunt for new coach as Wilson declines new deal

The forwards-focused coach has reportedly been the subject of interest from Northampton.

CARDIFF BLUES HAVE today confirmed that head coach Danny Wilson will leave the Welsh region at the end of the season.

The former Wales U20 coach, who joined the Blues in 2015, has opted against renewing his contract in the Welsh capital.

Formerly a forwards coach with Scarlets and Bristol, Wilson has reportedly been the subject of interest from Northampton Saints, though confirmation of his exit may well trigger more suitors.

“This was obviously a very difficult decision to make and I am very grateful to Cardiff Blues for the opportunities they have given to me,” Wilson said in a statement today.

The Blues claimed their first win of the Pro14 season on Saturday with a late win over Connacht in Galway and they are back in Ireland this weekend to face Munster in Thomond Park.

“It is disappointing that Danny has decided not to take up the offer of a new contract and will not be part of our strategy moving forward,” says Cardiff’s chief executive Richard Holland.

“We will begin the process of finding a successor immediately and we will consult key individuals to ensure we make the right appointment for Cardiff Blues.”
