Simpson subsequently left to join Newcastle United after an initial loan spell back in 2010, before making the move to Leicester in 2014 after a season at QPR.
The 30-year-old would go on to lift the Premier League title with the Foxes, playing a key role in their remarkable 2015-16 campaign that saw them defy all the odds to become champions.
