Roddy Collins' men win 7-goal thriller after conceding wonderful 35-yard free-kick

A brilliant long-range strike by Athlone’s Daniel Purdy wasn’t enough as Waterford United ended a 12-match winless run.

WATERFORD UNITED MAY sit bottom of the SSE Airtricity League First Division, but came back to record a superb 4-3 victory away to Athlone Town on Friday night.

Athlone’s Daniel Purdy bagged two goals for the home side on the night, including this super 35-yard free-kick on 64 minutes — which beat Waterford goalkeeper Matthew Connor and found the top corner.

The result ends a 12-game winless run for Roddy Collins’ side.
