Dana White believes Donegal's Joseph Duffy can become a UFC champion

“That kid looked unbelievable.”

CONOR McGREGOR WILL become the first Irishman to compete for an Ultimate Fighting Championship title in July, but Joseph Duffy has the potential to do so too.

That’s according to UFC president Dana White, who’s clearly a big fan of the man from Donegal. Duffy made a very impressive start to his UFC career last month when he took less than two minutes to defeat Jake Lindsey via KO.

The 27-year-old is expected to return to action this summer, and the UFC boss believes he has the potential to follow in McGregor’s footsteps by eventually earning a world title shot.

Dana White was speaking exclusively to Setanta Sports during the UFC 189 media tour, which visited Dublin recently to promote this summer’s meeting of Conor McGregor and defending featherweight champion Jose Aldo in Las Vegas.

The interview, conducted by Fergus Ryan, will be broadcast tonight on Setanta Ireland at 9.30pm. With a big few months on the horizon for Irish mixed martial arts, it should be well worth a look.

“I was going crazy during that fight,” said White, reflecting on Joseph Duffy’s debut UFC victory. “That kid looked unbelievable. Unbelievable.”

When asked if he believed that any other Irish fighters had the potential to replicate Conor McGregor’s achievements by fighting for a UFC belt, White said: ”Yeah, Duffy. The two best fighters I’ve seen out of Ireland right now are those two.”
