'It was a dream of mine to kick a right-footed conversion': Dan Carter has done it all now

The world’s record points scorer topped off his Test haul with his weak foot.

THE DEFINING MOMENT of Jonny Wilkinson’s career was delivered by his weaker right foot in the World Cup final of 2003, so maybe Dan Carter just wanted a little of taste of that same love.

With the Webb Ellis Cup sealed by Beauden Barrett’s 79th minute try in Carter’s glorious final bow in the black jersey, he took his chance.

His last act before lifting the World Player of the Year award would be to use his weaker right foot to top off his record Test points tally at 1598.

With another World Cup medal in his hand – this one, earned by his brilliant performances right through to the final  - he explained the decision to plant that cultured left boot.

“It was a bit weird but it’s always been a dream of mine to kick a conversion right-footed.

“I sort of had a bit of fun with the guys in the team that it would ever happen.

“The opportunity came. I practiced a few in training off my right foot and I just thought I’d give it a little go.”

There’s a lesson here, kids. If you’re going to take the piss, make sure you’ve earned the right to do it. And make sure you’ve practiced too.
