Blind warns Chelsea: Manchester United will challenge for the title next season

The Dutchman believes his side has improved vastly over the course of the season under Louis van Gaal after Sunday’s 4-2 victory over Manchester City.

DALEY BLIND SAYS Manchester United are ready to challenge for the Premier League title next season ahead of their clash with leaders Chelsea on Saturday.

United sit third in the table after a commanding 4-2 win over reigning champions and local rivals Manchester City and are on course to return to the Champions League following an encouraging first season under Louis van Gaal.

Blind is now targeting a strong finish to the season, starting at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

“I think Manchester United is always a club that is fighting for the title, so it’s an easy answer,” he told reporters. “You want to do better every time and if you see how we play, I think we have improved a lot.

“We are still improving and we really are one team, which is an important thing. We have to go on this way and keep in our mind that every game is a final.”

Blind insists United will not be distracted by Chelsea’s charge towards the Premier League title this season.

He added: “We don’t have to watch for Chelsea. We have to watch for our own games. We have to look at ourselves. Every game is a final until the end and we have to believe in ourselves.”

The Dutchman also played down the significance of the dominant derby display on Sunday, but enjoyed his first taste of victory against rivals City.

He continued: “Of course other teams were watching it, but we have to watch ourselves this season, watch our own games, focus on that and then we will see where it ends.

“It’s a great feeling, of course. A derby is always special. When we win a game like this, it’s special. It’s a great feeling.”
