HERE’S YOUR DAILY dose of transfer gossip as the madness of the summer transfer window begins and who better to guide us through the latest talks, hoodwinks and handshakes than ‘Arry himself.
Just don’t use the words wheelin’ or dealin’, alright?
Return of the prince: Everton fans will be happy with this one; Gerard Deulofeu is on his way back to Goodison Park. Incoming Barcelona chief David Vilajoana confirmed as much to AS while also bemoaning the structure at Barcelona. “A talented player in Deulofeu is about to move to Everton and that confirms the failure of the current model.”

Cech’ing out: This saga may finally be close to an end as Petr Cech looks a dead cert to sign for Arsenal soon. The 33-year-old is on the way out of Chelsea this summer and will be allowed to leave if a club makes an offer of €14 million for his services. The Daily Mirror report that Arsene Wenger has guaranteed him that he will be the club’s number one.
Done Deal: Remember when Andreas Weimann and Christian Benteke were tearing the Premier League up for a while back in 2012? Well the 23-year-old Austrian has been pretty poor ever since and has now dropped a division. Derby County have signed the attacker for €2.8 million from Aston Villa.
Sinking feeling: When you’re a promoted club the best thing to do is sign defenders of proven class, not ones with a poor track record. That’s what makes Bournemouth’s reported interest in Steven Caulker all the more interesting. The QPR and former Cardiff City centre-back has been relegated in his last two seasons in the Premier League and would command a hefty transfer fee.
Flirty: Manchester United have been linked with Valencia defender Nicolas Otamendi for a while now, and the Argentine has hinted he may leave the club this summer. He told ESPN: ”I’ve had a talk with the president and my agent, and he knows very well what my wish is, but for now I’ve told my agent that my head is here and I’m leaving it in his hands, to do what he needs to do.”
Spanish style: Asier Illarramendi is on his way to Liverpool in a €21 million deal from Real Madrid according to the Daily Telegraph. He hasn’t been afforded much game-time in the Spanish capital but the Telegraph are basing their assumptions on rumours from the largely unreliable Fichjes.net so don’t hold your breath Liverpool fans.
Double deal: There are plenty of papers this morning carrying the rumours that Louis Van Gaal will raid Lazio for two new signings this summer. His former Dutch centre-back Stefan de Vrij and Brazilian Felipe Anderson are the two men in question according to the Daily Star. Anderson would take Nani’s place in the squad as he looks to be on his way to Fenerbache in an €8.5 million deal.
Snubbed: Arsenal were reportedly keen on signing Schalke centre-back Benedikt Howedes. He would have been quite the signing for the Gunners but he has turned them down in favour of staying with the German club. Sky Sports report that Howedes told Kicker-Sportmagazin: “Milan and Arsenal have really been keen on my services, this is what I am able to confirm. I have decided in favour of FC Schalke 04. My job is not done here yet.”
