One of the UFC's most popular fighters has finally got a title shot

The lightweight title will be on the line on 19 December.

THE UFC LIGHTWEIGHT title will be up for grabs in the organisation’s final bout of 2015.

It’s been announced that reigning champion Rafael dos Anjos (24-7) will make his first defence of the belt in a rematch with the hugely popular Donald Cerrone (28-6-0-1).

The fight will act as the main event for UFC on FOX 17, which takes place in Orlando on Saturday, 19 December — seven days after Conor McGregor’s featherweight title unification bout against Jose Aldo.

Dos Anjos, a 30-year-old Brazilian, was crowned champion back in March when he caused a major upset by dethroning Anthony Pettis in the UFC 185 headliner.

Since losing to Dos Anjos by unanimous decision in August 2013, Cerrone has put together a run of eight consecutive wins in the space of just 18 months.

A native of Colorado, Cerrone recently expressed his interest in taking on Conor McGregor when the Dubliner inevitably moves up to the 155lbs division.

In what will be his 19th bout with the organisation, the 32-year-old American will be fighting for a UFC title for the first time — although he did fall short in title bouts against Jamie Varner and Benson Henderson during his WEC days.
