A STRONG SECOND half display was key to St Brendan’s College retaining their Corn Ui Mhuirí title in Tralee this evening as goals from All-Ireland winning Minors David Shaw and Billy Courtney sent the school on their way to a 22nd provincial title overall.
Both green flags were out of the top drawer, Shaw linking up with Billy Courtney and Mark O’Shea to score the first in the 36th minute for a 1-11 to 0-8 advantage.
Courtney meanwhile unleashed a powerful strike for the Sem’s second seven minutes later as the game pretty much ended as a contest at that point and Donnachadh O’Sullivan pitched in with seven points.
Tralee made the more impressive start of the two sides leading by 0-3 to 0-1 after seven minutes as the Sem struggled to get to the initial pace of the game with Michael Kelliher proving quite a handful for their defence in the first period.
The Killarney School managed to go ahead by the 13th minute however as they found scores a bit easier to come by in leading by 0-8 to 0-6 at the break.

Tom Lynch and Niall O’Mahoney did their best for Tralee but it was evident from their second-half display that the effects of the three game Chriost Rí saga in the build-up had caught up with Marc Ó Sé’s side.
Thoughts will now turn to the defence of their Hogan Cup title which will see them fact the Connacht Champions in the All-Ireland Semi-Final on Saturday March 18th.
