GLEN ROVERS MADE a winning start to their defence of the Cork senior hurling championship this afternoon.
The city outfit eased to a 0-23 to 0-6 victory over divisional side Carbery. The win was wrapped up by the interval when the Glen led by eight points, having restricted the West Cork men to just a single score in the opening period.
Elsewhere today, two goals from Cork forward Luke OโFarrell helped 2013 champions Midleton to a 2-16 to 0-12 win against Bishopstown. Mark Dolanโs second-half goal proved crucial in Douglasโ 2-18 to 1-18 triumph against Na Piarsaigh.
Jamie Coughlan scored the only goal of the game as Newtownshandrum defeated Killeagh by 1-19 to 0-16, St Finbarrโs needed extra-time to see off newly-promoted Newcestown by 2-15 to 1-15, and Blackrock gained revenge against Ballyhea for a defeat to the North Cork club at the same stage last year as Kevin OโKeeffe led the way with a contribution of 1-12 to their 1-22 to 1-13 victory.
Last night, the 2015 beaten finalists Sarsfields were three-point winners against 2011 champions Carrigtwohill, while in another East Cork affair, Bride Rovers had eight points to spare against Youghal.

Great going particularly since he probably wouldnโt be there if Lee Westwood hadnโt called them out on it!
@Conchรบr Mac An Bhaird:
Yes, it appears a bit strange that, as British Amateur Champion from last year, James was not invited to his own National Open in 2020.
US Open organizers didnโt forget to invite him last week, nor will The Masters, which features in November.
Based on his start today, James has a great career ahead of him.
Who is your money on pleaseโฆ..
@Larry Rawson: no idea, but to see an amateur from Mallow GC up there is good.
@Ger Buckley: 9/4 Patรญn. Form dictates heโs gonna win.
What a siht lineup
@Pat Andrews: Be glad theres an event this year you ungrateful a$$
