As it happened: Dublin v Cork - Allianz Division 1A hurling league

Cork beat Dublin twice in the league last year, who’ll triumph this time?

Full-time: Dublin 4-20 Cork 1-17

Good afternoon and welcome to The42‘s live coverage of this evening’s Allianz Hurling League Division 1A clash between Dublin and Cork at Croke Park. Jackie Cahill here taking you through the action and later we’ll have a report and reaction from our GAA editor Fintan O’Toole, who’s at GAA HQ.

It’s a big game for both counties, Cork looking to finally get off the mark after losing to Galway and Waterford in their opening fixtures, with Dublin looking for a second win on the bounce following an impressive victory over Galway at Parnell Park last time out.

Time for a look at the teams and we’ll you know of any late changes, if any, in due course.

Dublin won’t need reminding that Cork hit a whopping tally of 34 points when the sides met at Croke Park a year ago. Unfortunately, it was a game marred by Christopher Joyce’s cruciate knee ligament injury but thankfully the Cork defender is back to full fitness and named at full back this evening. Cast your mind back 12 months by clicking here.

Later in the year, Cork and Dublin met again in the Allianz League, this time at the semi-final stage. Cork came from 12 points down to snatch victory at Nowlan Park. Here’s the match report from that game.

Cork players have been on the pitch for a look around before getting ready for throw-in.

There’s one late change on the Dublin team, with Fionn O’Riain Broin from St Jude’s coming in for Chris Crummey.

Croke Park is looking resplendent ahead of this evening’s double-header, with the footballers of Dublin and Cork set to do battle at 7pm, after the hurling clash between the counties.

Almost ready to go at Croke Park.

Alan Kelly is the match referee from Galway – he refereed this game 12 months ago also.

Dublin put together a lovely possession move which ends with Daire Plunkett’s long range point.

GOAL FOR DUBLIN!

25 min – Dublin 3-8 Cork 0-4

This in incredible! This time it’s Mark Schutte cutting through the Cork defence before off-loading to Sean McGrath, who rams his shot past Anthony Nash. This three-goal blast has Cork in all sorts of trouble.

26 min – Dublin 3-8 Cork 0-5

Cork’s first score for some 20 minutes, as Patrick Horgan stops the rot from a free.

Half-time – Dublin 3-12 Cork 0-9

That’s one hell of a first half from Dublin, let us know your thoughts in the comments section. We’ll be back in plenty of time for the second half.

After a bright start, Cork are well behind at half-time against Dublin at Croke Park.

Here are the thoughts of our GAA editor Fintan O’Toole at Croke Park:

Cork’s poor league form hasn’t improved so far this evening. They were ripped apart midway through the half as Dublin raced through for three goals. Credit to Dublin though, they’ve looked excellent particularly in the form up front of Eamon Dillon and David Treacy.

We’re back underway at Croke Park.

Cork will want to make this competitive in the second half, conscious of scoring difference. Surely we’ll see an improved showing from the Rebels?

37 mins – Dublin 3-13 Cork 0-9

And yet it’s Dublin who get off to a bright start, with Mark Schutte putting over the opening point of the second half.

41 mins – Dublin 3-13 Cork 0-10

Patrick Horgan opens Cork’s second half account with a free.

42 mins – Dublin 3-13 Cork 0-11

Horgan’s second free in a minute, this time from one he won himself.

43 mins – Dublin 3-14 Cork 0-11

David O’Callaghan becomes Dublin’s ninth different scorer on the night.

Cork make another change as Paudie O’Sullivan comes in for Pa Cronin.

GOAL FOR DUBLIN!

48 mins – Dublin 4-14 Cork 0-11

A fourth Dublin goal, and a second from Eamon Dillon. This is a rout.

51 mins – Dublin 4-14 Cork 0-12

Cork trying to salvage something from this game, as Patrick Horgan adds a free, but it’s hugely impressive stuff from the Dubs.

51 mins – Dublin 4-15 Cork 0-12

An indication of Dublin’s dominance is the fact that all of their starting half-backs have now scored, Johnny McCaffrey on target this time.

57 mins – Dublin 4-16 Cork 0-12

David Treacy knocks over another free to pile the misery on Cork.

Eamon Dillon celebrates his second, and Dublin's fourth goal at Croke Park. Tommy Grealy / INPHO Tommy Grealy / INPHO / INPHO

59 mins – Dublin 4-16 Cork 0-13

Consolation point for Cork, scored by Paul Haughney. The margin is 15 points between the sides.

62 mins – Dublin 4-17 Cork 0-13

Shane Barrett’s second point for Dublin is another long-range cracker, after Seamus Harnedy is kept out at the other end.

63 mins – Dublin 4-17 Cork 0-14

Brian Lawton with a quick response for Cork but it’s too little, too late.

64 mins – Dublin 4-18 Cork 0-14

David Treacy’s been excellent for Dublin tonight and he adds to his tally with a monstrous free.

64 mins – Dublin 4-19 Cork 0-14

Dublin keep the scoreboard ticking over as Mark Schutte lands a point from play.

67 mins – Dublin 4-20 Cork 0-15

All too easy for Dublin as Eamon Dillon pops over yet another point. Cork respond with another consolation score through Seamus Harnedy.

70 mins – Dublin 4-20 Cork 0-17

Paul Haughney’s second point, from a 65, is a token gesture from Cork. It’s added to by Conor Lehane, who puts over his fourth score.

We’re into 4 minutes of additional time at Croke Park.

GOAL FOR CORK!

70+2 mins – Dublin 4-20 Cork 1-17

Seamus Harnedy credited with a consolation for Cork that creeps over the Dublin line, after Paudie O’Sullivan’s initial drive was beaten away by the massed Sky Blue ranks.

GOAL FOR CORK!

Full-time – Dublin 4-21 Cork 2-17

And that’s it from our hurling coverage, as Seamus Harnedy bags a late consolation goal for Cork. It’s a disappointing evening for the Rebels but Dublin have now racked up back to back victories in the Allianz Hurling League. Can the footballers make it a Dublin double? Click here to find out.
