JP McManus-owned horse suffers fatal fall at Cheltenham

Consul De Thaix fell in the first race of the day at the event earlier.

CONSUL DE THAIX suffered a fatal fall at the first race of the day at Cheltenham, it has been confirmed.

The death of the JP McManus-owned horse, who was trained by Nicky Henderson, was confirmed shortly after the race.

Jockey Mark Walsh, who was deputising for the injured Barry Geraghty, was also hurt in the accident and has been ruled out of competing in the rest of the festival as a result of the fall.

Willoughby Court, priced at 14/1 beforehand, emerged victorious in the race in question, with favourite Neon Wolf second and Messire Des Obeaux third.
