McGregor will take on reigning UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo in the main event at UFC 189 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday, 11 July.

The charismatic Dubliner has opted to base his training camp in Vegas, admitting that he has only managed to spend 19 days in Ireland this year.

However, in an in-depth interview with Ariel Helwani of MMAFighting.com, McGregor was insistent that although he’s enjoying his time in the US, his home will always be Ireland.

“I still have not left Ireland. Ireland is still my home. Maybe we’re training out here just for this, but I don’t look around and see unfamiliar faces. The people that are here are the people that have been here since day one,” said McGregor.

“Everyone that is here has been flown in from Ireland. We just up sticks. We’re in that position where we can go where we please. We can do as we please now. It’s Ireland on tour, make no mistake about it.

“When the fight is wrapped up I’ll bring my gold belt home to Dublin, Ireland. And it’ll be a proud, proud day for me, my team and my nation.”

McGregor also made a guarantee that the UFC will bring a show to Croke Park, as well as discussing his relationship with his girlfriend and his success on the business front.
