Nevada Athletic Commission today handed down the sanction to McGregor after a disciplinary hearing into the incident, which took place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on 17 August.

The Commission agreed unanimously to fine the Dubliner five per cent of his $3 million purse from the event after he threw bottles of water and energy drink cans at his opponent, Nate Diaz.

The bizarre altercation started after Diaz walked out of the press conference early following McGregor’s late arrival at the venue.

A verbal dispute ensued and after Diaz’s camp began to launch missiles at McGregor, he responded in kind by firing several back in the opposite direction.

McGregor appeared at today’s hearing via phone and accepted that his actions were ‘wrong’. He has the right to appeal.
