MMA FANS ALL over Ireland will be digging out their old Reebok Classics today after the sports apparel giant announced that they’ve signed Conor McGregor.
No financial details of the deal have been disclosed, but it’s likely to be quite lucrative following UFC boss Dana White’s description of McGregor yesterday as “the most marketable fighter of all time”.
The Dubliner is the first MMA athlete who hasn’t yet held a UFC belt to be signed to a Reebok sponsorship deal, joining Jon Jones, Ronda Rousey, Anthony Pettis and Johny Hendricks as a Reebok athlete.
“Conor’s hard work, determination and confidence have gotten him to where he is today,” Reebok Brand President Matt O’Toole said. “His passion and his commitment to continual self-improvement are a true reflection of the Reebok brand.”
The UFC recently announced a uniform deal with Reebok for all fighters, which is set to take effect in July, so other UFC stars will also reap the benefits of sporting the Reebok logo. But this exclusive deal for McGregor will keep him a cut above his rivals, including featherweight champion Jose Aldo, who has yet to be signed by Reebok.
“I believe my potential in the octagon is limitless, but it all comes down to the training you put in pre-fight,” McGregor said. “With a top fitness brand like Reebok behind me, there’s no telling what I can do in the octagon.”
