McGregor faces new opponent as Ogle withdraws through injury

The Dubliner will now take on Hawaiian Max Holloway in Boston on August 17.

THE MAN SCHEDULED to fight Ireland’s Conor McGregor on August 17 has pulled out due to injury.

British featherweight Andy Ogle was named as the Dubliner’s opponent back in May but the 24-year-old has withdrawn and the UFC announced late on Wednesday night that Max ‘Blessed’ Holloway will replace him.

After his explosive debut against Marcus Brimage, SBG’s McGregor will be looking to add to his growing reputation with a second victory. And five weeks out from the big night, it has emerged that he is set to step into the Octagon with 21-year-old Hawaii native Holloway (7-2).

Responding to the news on SevereMMA.com, McGregor’s coach John Kavanagh said: “Stylistically this match up has more potential to be a real crowd-pleaser as Holloway tends to strike more.

“He presents an interesting set of problems and also has a pretty good name Stateside so I believe he’s an excellent match up for Conor’s US debut.

Prediction? Holloway is good technical fighter but I don’t see him getting out of the first round.

“I’d also like to wish Ogle a speedy recovery - who knows maybe that match up can happen down the road.”
