Rugby Union - International Friendly - Wales v Canada Italian referee Giulio De Santis. EMPICS Sport EMPICS Sport

We think it was Giulio De Santis ‘Hardly Normal‘ was talking about when he was expressing his relief that it wouldn’t be Wayne Barnes refereeing this weekend’s Pro12 final.

At least it’s not Barnes, he’s awful and for some reason seems to dislike Irish teams. Owens is great entertainment and a quality ref, he makes the odd mistake but you can forgive him that . No better ref in any sport apart from maybe the italian bald fella with the eyes.. (made numerous failed attemps at spelling his name, ye all know who I mean).

After making a return to management with Waterford United, Roddy Collins is already expressing an interest in the vacancy at Real Madrid according to ‘Tony‘.

Sean Hayes remembers the old days of Premier League football when fully committed players could win the league without needing to be pampered.

“Top places occupied by the biggest spenders” isn’t that pretty much always the case? I suppose it was little more boring than usual this year because one of those big spenders won in with a by to spare. Since the advent of the Premier League and the influx of TV money the game across the water has lost it’s appeal. Look at the way Jim McGuinness brought Donegal to the top table in gaelic. He got a poor non traditional side to defy all odds by playing in a certain way and buying in to a philosophy. It couldn’t happen in the English Premier League. Egos wouldn’t allow highly paid professionals to buy in to that style of leadership and half the team would be picked off in the transfer window. 25 years ago it would have been much more of a possibility. It’s more business than sport now. Money talks and wins all the time..
