Where do we apply for Rala's job? It’s Comments of the Week

Billy Walsh’s departure from Irish sport, Ireland’s defeat to the Argies and UFC Dublin were all big in the news over the past seven days.

DENIS O’BRIEN (NOT that one) is a fan of The Smiths, going by this pun about Bosnia & Herzegovina and Roma midfielder  Miralem Pjanic. Let’s hope this isn’t the case after Ireland’s Euro 2016 play-off.

It has been a depressing week for Irish boxing as Billy Walsh was allowed to leave for a fresh start in the US. Here’s David Sheehan‘s thoughts on the fiasco with the IABA:

Sounds like all he wanted was the respect that he deserved. Him and his team surely the most successful in Irish sport yet he was to have to go to Carruth to ratify his decisions.”

And those familiar with HBO’s Entourage will get this Billy Walsh-related quip from John Mitchell:

Himself and E just couldn’t settle their differences. I hope Vince can get the next movie without him!”

Was randomly picking out some red wine today at the supermarket and when I checked the label and saw it was Argentinian I put it back. Didn’t want to be reminded in a few weeks, so opted for more palatable soft French red.”

Like a lot of MMA fighters, the man headlining UFC Dublin on Saturday night is sporting an impressive beard. Mike Jones sees similarities with the protagonist in John B Keane’s The Field.

Paddy Holohan could play the Bull McCabe in a re-make of The Field. Head off him.”
A legend of Louth football, Stephen Melia, sadly passed away this week. Kalpol recalls one particular encounter with the brilliant midfielder.
He ploughed through me one evening in a championship match and I thought to myself ‘that’s his card marked, next time I’m going to go through him’. Missed him about 5 times that night. Made a show of me. Put his arm around me at the end of the match and said ‘this is the closest you got to me all evening’. All I could do was laugh. RIP legend.”
