'All of the players, all of the inter-county managers are not in favour of it and it’s in. So nice job by the GAA.'

The motion was passed at GAA Congress over the weekend.

CLARE FOOTBALL MANAGER Colm Collins has lashed out at the GAA for introducing the ‘Super 8′ system, saying it does nothing for smaller counties or dual players.

“It’s as pointless talking about it now, as it is me talking about winning the Lotto. It’s in now and we have got to deal with it. It’s the end of the story.

“I’m not in favour of it. All of the players, all of the inter-county managers are not in favour of it and it’s in. So nice job by the GAA.

“No question it stacks the dice in favour of the stronger counties but that’s what they want. It’s in now for three years so we just get on with it,” he said.

His son Podge has this year chosen to play hurling rather than try play both codes for players, and the Clare manager says the new system will make it even harder for dual players.

“I don’t think it helps anybody except the strong and it does nothing for the dual players. But that’s the way they went and it just shows that the top of the organisation is totally out of sync with the grassroots,” he added.
