Mullane's message to Davy - 'I think he's got to get Podge Collins back'

Do the Clare hurlers need the Cratloe man back?

PODGE COLLINS WAS part of a victorious Clare football team last weekend but Davy Fitzgerald needs to get him back involved with the Banner hurling squad.

That’s the view of five-time Waterford Allstar winner John Mullane in the wake of Clare’s loss to Limerick last Sunday and as the Banner start to plot their comeback through the qualifiers.

Speaking on RTÉ 2FM’s Game On last night, Mullane revealed his belief that the Clare hurling squad need the 2013 Allstar.

““For Davy Fitzgerald now, he’s got one massive decision. Does he go knocking on Podge Collins’ door and say to Podge: ‘Look, you know, we’ll leave a little bit of leeway there for you with regards to football’.

“I think he’s got to get Podge Collins back. He’s got to go and come to some decision and I think he’s got to act fast.

“Clare footballers won at the weekend [against Limerick] and the latest the Clare footballers could be out of the championship could be mid-July.

“In my dealings with Davy at Waterford for four years, he is set in his ways but he has no option here.”

Mullane also believes that the other former hurlers in the Clare football squad – Sean Collins and Cathal McInerney – should be welcomed back by Fitzgerald.

Is Mullane right? Do the Clare hurlers need those footballers back? Let us know in the comments section below.
