Hello and welcome to today’s liveblog. Kevin O’Brien here. We’ve got three games quality games of provincial club hurling in store for you today.
It’s Munster final day in Thurles, where two clubs with contrasting tradition meet at Semple Stadium. Ballyea won their first ever Clare senior county title last month, while Cork’s Glen Rovers boast 27 senior crowns, three Munster titles and two All-Irelands.
The game is being billed as the clash of the sharpshooters – Tony Kelly versus Patrick Horgan – but there will be so much more quality on show all over the field. Read a preview here:
Meanwhile further east, four teams will become two in the Leinster championship. The standout tie is Oulart the Ballagh (Wexford) v O’Loughlin Gaels (Kilkenny).
O’Loughlin Gaels recently lifted their first county title in six years, and fourth overall, while two-in-a-row Wexford winners Oulart finally got over the hump by winning Leinster last year.
The weekend’s third game sees Dublin’s Cuala make the trip south to Carlow outfit St Mullins – who will fancy their chances of causing an upset. Cuala were beaten by Oulart in last year’s provincial decider, and they’ll be eyeing revenge down the line. Here’s a preview to whet the appetite:
5 mins – Both danger men are on target. Patrick Horgan slots over a free, before Tony Kelly jinks his way past a couple of defenders and splits the posts.
