Thursday's clash between Club Brugge & Napoli to be played behind closed doors

Local authorities felt that such a drain on emergency services was not ideal given the current vulnerable state of the country.

BECAUSE OF THE continued security alerts in Belgium, Thursday’s Europa League fixture between Club Brugge and Napoli will be played behind closed doors.

Initial reports today suggested that just the visiting supporters would not be permitted to attend but police have now decided that the game should be played in an empty stadium instead.

With an unspecified amount of Napoli fans (believed to be as many as 3,000) having planned on being at the game, local authorities felt that such a drain on emergency services was not ideal given the current climate in the country.

Napoli are already through to the knockout stages and have left a number of their high-profile players at home, including Gonzalo Higuain and Dries Mertens.

The game will kick-off as planned at 8.05pm.
