Vikings actor hits back at Jose Aldo on Conor McGregor's behalf

Bearded gentlemen stick together.

CONOR McGREGOR IS now preparing to face Chad Mendes at UFC 189, but the war of words between the Irishman and Jose Aldo continues.

Aldo, the UFC featherweight champion, was forced to withdraw from his title defence against McGregor on 11 July due to a rib injury.

The Brazilian released a statement this week, in which he compared McGregor to a character from the popular TV show Vikings.

“As of my opponent, who told me to step up and fight like a man, I can’t say anything about a man that imitates a TV series character (Travis Fimmel, from Vikings),” said Aldo.

“That’s really who he wanted to be, because he’s probably ashamed of being who he really is, so he imitates his lines, his style and this actor’s tattoos.”

McGregor has yet to respond to Aldo’s comments but one Vikings actor has taken to Twitter to do so on the Dubliner’s behalf.

Down native Clive Standen plays Rollo — the brother of Travis Fimmel’s character Ragnar — in the show, and he’s clearly a McGregor fan.
