Former Premier League favourite ruled out for remainder of MLS season due to irregular heartbeat

Clint Dempsey’s enforced absence is a big blow to the Seattle Sounders.

FORMER TOTTENHAM AND FULHAM player Clint Dempsey has been ruled out for the remainder of the Major League Soccer season because of an irregular heartbeat.

His current club – the Seattle Sounders – announced the news on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old US international had some medical tests done last month and missed a number of games for club and country. Though it was hoped Dempsey would recover and feature again for the franchise, he stopped training last week and will now sit out the rest of the campaign.

Dempsey is a key performer for the Sounders and losing him will be a big blow to Seattle’s hopes of making the play-offs this term.

With the regular season inching closer to completion, they’re currently three points behind local rivals Portland in the chase for the sixth and final post-season berth in the Western Conference,
