Poll: Do you think Clare hurling needs an independent review?

Brian Lohan reckons it’s the way to go.

FORMER CLARE STAR Brian Lohan has had his say on the current state of Clare hurling.

The two-time All-Ireland winning full-back believes that ex-boss Ger Loughnane should be appointed to head up a review of the performances of the Banner County’s flagship senior hurling team and management, led by Davy Fitzgerald.

Wolfe Tones clubman Lohan, who guided University of Limerick to Fitzgibbon Cup glory this year, has insisted that the county board should not be in charge of a root and branch analysis of the team’s displays over the last two years.

Instead, he would like to see that role entrusted to Loughnane, mastermind of Clare’s 1995 and 1997 All-Ireland senior championship wins.

“I don’t think the county board is independent enough. By their actions, particularly in the immediate aftermath of the Cork defeat, they have shown that they are not independent.

“You could get the likes of Ger Loughnane to chair that independent committee. There is no doubt about his commitment to Clare and his credentials,” Lohan told The Clare Champion.
