Clare and Dublin offered play-off after withdrawing from controversial coin toss

The teams are due to meet in Thurles this Saturday, with the winner playing Wexford 48 hours later.

CLARE AND DUBLIN have been offered the chance to meet in a play-off for the remaining place in the All-Ireland senior camogie quarter-finals this weekend.

The teams had been due to draw lots today to see who would take on Wexford after finishing level on points in Group 2, having also drawn 1-8 to 1-8 earlier this year.

However, after both county boards withdrew their names from the coin toss, the Camogie Association has decided to schedule a match between the teams at Semple Stadium this Saturday, 1 August (2pm).

The winners will progress to a last-eight clash with the Model County on Monday, 3 August. A venue has yet to be confirmed.

The Camogie Association Ard Chomhairle took the decision in order to find a solution to the impasse which arose after both Clare and Dublin Camogie Boards withdrew, after objecting to the pre-determined competition procedures to identify the fourth quarter-finalist in the Liberty Insurance Senior All-Ireland Championship,” the statement reads.

“Extra-time will be played in the event of the play-off ending in a draw, while extra-time will also apply in the Senior quarter-final on August 3rd.”

Update: Both counties have accepted the offer.
