Boost for Ciaran Sheehan's Carlton AFL career as he's listed under the nominated rookie rule

Sheehan made his debut for Carlton last August.

CORK ALL-IRELAND winner Ciaran Sheehan has received a boost in his Australian Rules career after getting the nod to play senior games for Carlton in 2015.

He has been listed by the Blues along with teammate Cameron Wood as a Nominated Rookie, meaning that he can be available for selection for every game this season.

Sheehan made his Carlton debut last August in a Round 20 game against the Gold Coast and made three further AFL appearances at the end of the season for the Melbourne-based club.

Under the Nominated Rookie Rule, a team is eligible to nominate a rookie player who can play during the Premiership season and finals series if it has 38 players on its list (not including veteran players) and satisfies the Total Player Payments requirements.

Opener

Carlton face Richmond in the opening game of the 2015 AFL season on Thursday 2 April at 7.20pm local time – 8.20am Irish time – at the MCG Arena. Sheehan is currently battling a groin injury ahead of that game.

The 24 year-old moved to Carlton in November 2013 after a GAA career that saw him win an All-Ireland U21 medal in 2009 and an All-Ireland senior medal in 2010.
