Cork's Ciaran Sheehan won't be offered a new AFL contract by Carlton

The dual Eire Og star has endured a torrid time with injuries in Melbourne.

2010 ALL-IRELAND SFC winner Ciaran Sheehan will be released by his Aussie Rules side Carlton.

The Corkman has endured an injury-plagued time in Melbourne, playing just six AFL fixtures since making the move to Australia in 2014 – though he also played for Carlton’s Victorian League affiliate, Northern Blues in that time.

“Ciaran had an unfortunate string of injuries but showed terrific resilience his time at the club. He made the most of his opportunities and we will miss his humility and determination,” Carlton’s head of football Andrew McKay said in a statement which also signalled there would be no new contract offers for Rhys Palmer or Dylan Buckley on top of the Eire Og dual star.

“It’s always a difficult time of year for our departing players, and we thank them for their contribution to both our AFL and VFL teams and wish them all the best for their future endeavours.”
