Ciaran Byrne makes Carlton debut to become latest Irish star of Aussie Rules

The Blues were involved in a fiery encounter at the MCG.

Carlton 4

LOUTH NATIVE Ciaran ‘Casey’ Byrne joined the ranks of the AFL overnight.

The 20-year-old was introduced in the third quarter of Carlton’s defeat to Essendon at the MCG.

Byrne’s parents made the long trip south to witness their young son’s senior Aussie Rules bow and they will have witnessed a full-blooded contest, punctuated by what we’d call shemozzles.

The Bombers ultimately ran out 21-point winners, despite a late flurry from the Blues, as they continued their impressive start to the season.
