UFC champ Weidman: McGregor will finish Aldo in two rounds

The middleweight title-holder makes his pick for UFC 189.

CHRIS WEIDMAN HAS given his backing to Conor McGregor for the Dubliner’s forthcoming clash with Jose Aldo.

McGregor will face the reigning UFC featherweight champion in Las Vegas on 11 July in one of the most eagerly-anticipated bouts in Ultimate Fighting Championship history.

Aldo hasn’t been beaten since 2005, but the title-holder in the UFC’s middleweight division says that run is about to end.

Weidman believes that McGregor’s size and confidence will give him the edge, and he’s also not convinced that all is well behind the scenes for the Brazilian.

“I’m a big fan of Aldo but I think McGregor’s winning the fight,” said Weidman. “I think he finishes him, TKO, second round… end of the second round.

“Trust me, I know the world’s going to end if [McGregor] wins this fight. Everybody wants to see him lose. I just think he’s just so big for the weight. He’s very athletic, big and confident. I think those are his biggest attributes.

“It does seem like a lot’s going on with Aldo. This drug test thing, his coach is talking about retirement… maybe his head’s not 100% in the game.

“And it’s funny because Aldo’s coming off one of the most impressive wins — I thought — in his career against Chad Mendes. I feel like he showed a lot in that fight. But for some reason I still think he’s losing this fight.”
