CHLOE MAGEE’S OLYMPIC campaign began with a straight sets defeat to Chinese world number two Yihan Wang this morning.
The Irish badminton star produced a battling performance but Wang’s class told as she took control from the outset to record an emphatic 21-7, 21-12 victory at the Riocentro Pavillion.
Magee won the first point of the match but that was as good as it got for the 27-year-old, whose frustration was evident throughout a game which quickly slipped from her grasp.
The Donegal athlete now faces an uphill task to qualify out of her group with German Karin Schnasse providing the opposition on Saturday night.
