CHILE DEFENDER GONZALO Jara will be banned for the remainder of the Copa America according to reports, after appearing to insert his finger into the anus of Uruguay star Edinson Cavani.

Cavani was sent off for reacting to the incident in question, as Uruguay’s Copa America hopes ended following the 1-0 loss.

However, images of former West Brom player Jara’s action subsequently went viral, and his tournament now appears to be over.

Though the ban has yet to be officially announced, South American journalist Juan Arango tweeted that Jara will face disciplinary action for his behaviour.

It is not the only controversial incident to mar this year’s Copa America, with Brazil striker Neymar recently receiving a four-game ban amid ugly scenes, after headbutting an opponent and allegendly attempting to intimidate the official.

It is also not the first time Jara has been the subject of controversy, after a similar incident with Argentina’s Gonzalo Higuain in 2012.

The player’s club have also reacted angrily to the incident, with Mainz’ sporting director Christian Heidel telling Bild: “We do not tolerate that. What makes me more angry than the prod, however, is what happens after. There is nothing I hate more than theatrics.

“He knows that if an offer comes in, he can go.”
