Chelsea splash out €40m on one of Belgium's hottest prospects

22-year-old striker Michy Batshuayi is the club’s first signing of the summer after joining from Marseille.

CHELSEA HAVE WRAPPED up a big-money deal for Belgium international Michy Batshuayi, the club has confirmed this afternoon.

The 22-year-old Brussels-born striker joins on a five-year contract from Marseille for a reported £30 million (€40m).

A physical, pacy centre forward, he recorded 23 goals and ten assists for the Ligue 1 side in all competitions last season, and scored with his first touch at Euro 2016 in the 4-0 win over Hungary.

“I am delighted to sign for one of the biggest clubs in Europe and embark on the next chapter in my career,” the striker said. “I hope I can help Chelsea win many trophies during my time at Stamford Bridge.

Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois have told me many good things about the club, and with Antonio Conte coming in it’s an exciting time to become a Chelsea player.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family, I am looking forward to playing in the Premier League next season.”

Batshuayi is the London club’s first signing of the summer, but they are expected to make a several more with new manager Antonio Conte’s involvement at Euro 2016 ending last night.
