CORK CITY HAVE confirmed the signing of Ryan Delaney as the beginning of the 2017 season approaches.
The 20-year-old central defender, who can also play at left-back, will head to Turner’s Cross on loan from Burton Albion until July.
Delaney joined Burton, who are currently languishing in 22nd place in the English Championship, from Wexford Youths last summer but he has yet to make a first-team appearance for the club, who are managed by Nigel Clough.
“We have been actively looking at bringing in a centre back and we are delighted to bring Ryan in,” said Cork City manager John Caufield. “He obviously knows the league from having played here with Wexford and his form here got him the move to Burton.

“We obviously had Eoghan O’Connell in on loan from Celtic last year and he did very well for us. The spell here helped him and I know that was something that came into Ryan’s thinking. I know a number of clubs were interested in him so we’re very pleased that he’s coming here.”
Cork City will open their SSE Airtricity League Premier Division campaign away to Finn Harps on 24 February, seven days after they take on Dundalk for the President’s Cup.
