It was a good day for a lot of Irish players in England’s second tier today.

HARRY ARTER SCORED for Bournemouth to help his side clinch the Sky Bet Championship title at the expense of Watford today.

The Cherries beat Charlton 3-0 at Valley Parade but looked like they would have to settle for second spot as Watford held a 1-0 lead over Sheffield Wednesday entering stoppage time.

However, Atdhe Nuhiu’s late, late leveller ensured it is Bournemouth that will go up as champions with Watford having to second for the second automatic promotion spot.

Despite Derby County coming into the final round of game safe in the knowledge a point — given their superior goal difference — would be enough to secure a playoff spot.

However, things did not exactly go to plan for Steve McLaren’s men when Kwesi Appiah shot home for Reading after less than two minutes. After Darren Bent missed a penalty just before the break, Derby capitulated, losing 3-0 to a side with nothing to play for.

Brentford took full advantage moving up into fifth place thanks to a 3-0 win over Wigan meaning they’ll face Middlesbrough in the playoffs.

And while Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich lost 3-2 to Blackburn Rovers, two goals from Daryl Murphy ensured they beat Wolves to the final playoff spot on superior goal difference and will now face Norwich in the semi-finals.
