Valencia celebrate UEFA Champions League progression.

There are 5 clubs from 1 country in the Champions League group stages for the first time

Despite a 2-1 defeat to Monaco, Valencia ensured La Liga made history in the competition.

SPAIN WILL HAVE five clubs in Thursday’s Champions League group stage draw.

Valencia were beaten 2-1 away to Monaco last night but Alvaro Negredo’s away goal ensured a 4-3 aggregate win for the La Liga club.

They will join current holders Barcelona, ten-time winners Real Madrid, Europa League champions Sevilla and 2014 finalists Atletico Madrid as five sides from the same country are represented in Europe’s elite club competition for the first time.

Just last season, Uefa introduced a Champions League spot for the winners of the Europa League.

The group stage draw takes place in Monaco at 4.45pm tomorrow.
