Celtic release new retro kit to mark 50th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions' European triumph

In a nod to Jock Stein’s famous team, the strip also features a commemorative gold crest.

ON 25 MAY, IT will be 50 years since the greatest victory in Celtic’s history.

The Lisbon Lions, made up entirely of players born within a 30-mile radius of Glasgow, went all the way to the final of the 1966/67 European Cup where they took on the mighty Inter Milan.

Played at the Estádio Nacional in Portugal’s capital city, second-half goals from Tommy Gemmell and Stephen Chalmers handed Jock Stein’s side a 2-1 victory after Sandro Mazzola had scored from the penalty spot early on.

This afternoon, the Scottish Premiership champions held an event outside Parkhead to launch the new commemorative home kit that they will wear from next season.

Made by New Balance, the retro strip resembles the one worn by the Hoops side all those years ago.

The crest has also been altered to pay tribute to that famous team.
