Reacting to suggestions that he didn’t deserve to win, Pendred insisted it was the right call.
“I thought I won the fight fairly clearly. I dominated for the majority of the fight in both clinch and striking. I thought I got the better in both areas and that it was a clear win for me.
“The constant pressure and I think I landed more shots and takedowns. I think it was a very clear win in that sense when you break it down that way. I got three, possibly four takedowns and landed more shots.
“He hit me with an overhand right. I think I was just keeping my left hand a little bit low but I just recovered and tidied up my hands.
I thought it was close and I was disappointed because I thought I could have blown him out of the water a little bit more. I thought I was definitely going to get the finish and that I was way above this guy but he was scrappy and he gave me a fight.
“When I took him down, he kept fighting and trying to get back to his feet.”

“I don’t feel I made the statement I wanted,” he added. “I feel I got the win comfortably but I’m a little bit disappointed. I’m happy with some things. I wanted to show some new things, which I think I did, but I thought I was a little bit sloppy in certain areas where I wanted to tidy up on.
This game is about getting into the gym and constantly improving and bettering yourself and that’s what I’m going to do. I’ll be back training as soon as I get home.
“I’m 3-0 in the UFC now and I feel like I’m working my way up the ladder and am confident I’m going in the right direction. I’m confident I’ll get a higher calibre opponent next time around and I’ll be confident of surpassing that test and continue to move forward.”
