CATHAL MCCARRON IS set to make a comeback with the Tyrone footballers for 2015.
An official statement released from the Gaelic Players’ Association today confirmed that McCarron is back training on his own with a view to rejoining the Red Hands squad next month.
McCarron hit the headlines last year when it emerged he was the latest high-profile inter-county player to struggle with a gambling addiction.
He moved to Britain and the Dromore club man joined London outfit Round Towers. McCarron subsequently lined out this year for Paul Coggins London senior football side.
Today’s statement confirms that McCarron, who was an Allstar nominee in 2013, is back in the reckoning to feature for Mickey Harte’s Tyrone senior side in 2015.
The statement reads:
“Cathal McCarron and the Tyrone senior football management would like to inform the national media that Cathal is currently working on his personal fitness under a strength and conditioning coach with a view to returning to full training with the Tyrone squad when they regroup next month.
“While conveying this positive news we would like to point out that Cathal will not be engaging with media in any capacity for the foreseeable future.
“On behalf of Cathal, the Tyrone squad and management, the GPA would kindly ask you to respect Cathal’s need to focus on his recovery and his return to football.”
Munster could have done with him at times during last season
What’s wrong with the hookers they have?
If he doesn’t want us well then we don’t want him. Good luck to him I hope England works out for him except when he plays us.
More a case of Ireland doesn’t want him so he’s not going to hang around.
Relax lads, he’s 23. It’s not like he has much development left in him anyway. He’d never have gotten into the Irish senior squad.
Ashton was selected but turned down his place.
Our current hookers can’t hit the line out.
Get the wingers to throw in then!
