Carragher and Neville full of praise for Ireland's Jeff Hendrick after his match-winning goal last night

The Dubliner is showing some excellent form ahead of the crucial play-off games with Denmark next month.

GOOD FOOTBALLERS, IT is often said, make the game look easy, and that was certainly true of Jeff Hendrick last night.

The Ireland international hit a 74th-minute winner, as a Burnley side that also included Robbie Brady and Stephen Ward beat Newcastle 1-0 to go seventh in the table, leaving them behind Liverpool on goal difference only.

The 25-year-old Dubliner, who also hit the winner in the Claretsโ€™ 1-0 victory over Everton earlier this month and has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, received praise on Sky Sports afterwards from Jamie Carragher, who was impressed with the calm manner in which Hendrick expertly controlled and converted Johann Berg Gudmundssonโ€™s inch-perfect cross.

โ€œThe touch is absolutely brilliant, itโ€™s flying across goal,โ€ Gary Neville added of the gameโ€™s decisive moment.

โ€œThereโ€™s a real top bit of quality in the finish and the composure is fantastic. Heโ€™s a good player, him.โ€

Check out Hendrickโ€™s post-match interview and the full discussion of his key contribution in the video below.

How can you say โ€œallegedlyโ€? He kicked the Galway player in the face while he was on the ground.

@Mike Keane: actually Mike, he tapped his boot at the Galway player, he shouldnโ€™t have done it but it was not malicious. The treatment he received that day was disgraceful. He was an amazing footballer in his time.

Dully is a Dublin legend, he played hard, but to be fair he took a hugh amount of abuse. I can state personally he gave as good as he got. Proud to say I played against this Dublin legend. One of the toughest and finest footballer of the 80,s
