She was outstanding as the United States Women’s National Team claimed the most recent Women’s World Cup in Canada. In the final, she made history and scored a hat-trick against Japan and inevitably walked away with the tournament’s Golden Ball award.

But earlier this year it was announced she was following in the footsteps of US team-mate Alex Morgan and swapping the domestic league for a sojourn to Europe.
While Morgan signed for French powerhouses Lyon, Lloyd elected to join Manchester City in a short-term deal.
She made her debut last Saturday in a 1-0 win over Reading but tonight saw her involved in the Uefa Champions League for the very first time as City took on Danish side Fortuna Hjorring in their quarter-final first-leg.

And, unsurprisingly, Lloyd made her mark – tucking away a header from close range to give her side the advantage heading into the reverse fixture.
Interestingly, should City progress, they’ll face the winners of Wolfsburg v Lyon in the semi-finals so Lloyd and Morgan could come face-to-face with a Champions League final at stake.
