THE CONTROVERSIAL DRAW to decide the final place in the All-Ireland senior camogie quarter-finals will go ahead on Wednesday despite the objections of both counties.
The Dublin and Clare county boards both appealed against the decision to draw lots to see who should progress to play Wexford.
The Camogie Association ruled that their objections cannot be heard and that the tie-breaking procedure must stand — effectively ending one team’s championship with a ‘coin toss.’
The other will have just over 72 hours to prepare for their showdown in Semple Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Dublin and Clare finished level on points in Group 2 having played out a 1-8 to 1-8 draw earlier in the campaign.
Under the competition rules, teams which finish level are ranked by the higher number of goals scored in games between the two, and then by the higher number of points in the games, before proceeding to drawing of lots.
The procedure was branded as “ludicrous” by Dublin manager Shane O’Brien, and both counties lodged appeals minutes after Clare’s final group game was completed on Sunday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the National Transfer Hearing and Disciplinary Committee (NTHDC) said that it cannot reconsider a decision taken by Ard Comhairle.
It said: “Confirmation of the team that progresses to the All-Ireland senior-quarter final on August 1st to play Wexford will be announced tomorrow (Wednesday, July 29th) after a draw to determine this, is carried out.”
The draw will be streamed live on the Camogie Association’s YouTube channel at 9.30am, 98FM report.
