Remember Bradley Wright-Phillips? He set a new goalscoring record in the MLS last night

Something even Robbie Keane hasn’t managed yet.

THINGS MAY NOT have worked out for Bradley Wright-Phillips at the highest level in England, but the London-born striker has certainly been enjoying his football in the US.

Last night, Wright-Phillips scored twice for New York Red Bulls in their 3-3 draw with Toronto FC. The brace took his tally for the 2016 campaign to 20 — making him the first player in the 21-year history of the MLS to score 20 goals in a regular season on two separate occasions.

To put the achievement in perspective, that’s something that even the likes of Robbie Keane, Landon Donovan or Thierry Henry haven’t been able to accomplish. In 2014, Wright-Phillips finished the season with the MLS Golden Boot after netting 27 times.

Wright-Phillips, who’s now 31, began his career with Manchester City but was unable to earn a regular place in the team at Eastlands. He moved on to Southampton and later had spells with Plymouth Argyle, Charlton Athletic and Brentford, before heading to New York in 2013.

A son of Arsenal legend Ian Wright and the half-brother of former Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips — who he now plays alongside at New York Red Bulls — Bradley Wright-Phillips has scored 71 times in 113 MLS games. In comparison, Robbie Keane has managed 90 goals in 140 games for LA Galaxy.
