IRELAND U21 INTERNATIONAL Jimmy Dunne scored the only goal as Burnley beat a Cork XI in front of 1,727 people at Turner’s Cross tonight.
Having played a crucial Champions League qualifier on Tuesday, it was no surprise that Cork fielded a largely second-string side, while the Burnley team included Ireland internationals Stephen Ward, Kevin Long, Jeff Hendrick and Jon Walters.
But it was an Irishman who has yet to be capped at senior level that scored the winner, with 20-year-old Drogheda-born defender Dunne scoring from close range, after James Tarkowski’s header from a corner deflected into his path.
