PSG complete the capture of Juventus legend Buffon on one-year deal

The veteran goalkeeper has linked up with the Ligue 1 champions.

PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN HAVE completed the signing of Gianluigi Buffon, with the 40-year-old goalkeeper penning a one-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions.

Goal revealed on Thursday that a legendary figure of the modern era had agreed terms with the French giants and was poised to take on a new challenge.

That has now been confirmed, with the deal which takes Buffon to France including a 12-month extension option which could take him past his 42nd birthday.

He links up with PSG after leaving Juventus as a free agent, with the last 17 years having been spent in Turin.

Buffon told his new clubโ€™s official website as he prepares to open a new chapter in an iconic career: โ€œIt is with a great feeling of happiness that I join Paris Saint-Germain.

โ€œFor the first time in my career, I am leaving my country and only a project this ambitious could have encouraged me to make such a decision.

โ€œI want to thank the club and the president for their confidence. To have followed the clubโ€™s incredible progression in recent years, I know what dreams Paris Saint-Germain and its fans have in their hearts.

โ€œI am going to bring all my energy, all my experience and all of my thirst to win to help my new club achieve all the great objectives it has set out for the future.

โ€œWith my teammates and our supporters, we will share fantastic emotions at the Parc des Princes and in all of the stadiums in which we are going to represent Paris, a marvellous city that deserves to one day see its club at the top of international football.โ€

PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi added: โ€œWe all feel an immense pride in welcoming Gianluigi Buffon into the great Paris Saint-Germain family.

โ€œThe immensity of his career, as well as his ambitious personality, unifying and elegant, make him one of the most admired and respected players in world football.

โ€œAt 40 years old, his passion for football is intact and Gianluigi has found the ideal environment in our project to set himself extremely high objectives transmitting his experience, not only to the other goalkeepers at the club, but to all of our players.

โ€œOur supporters will know how to welcome Buffon with the enthusiasm and love that he deserves.

โ€œHis arrival reaffirms our will to always go higher, an ambition that we intend to pursue with a determination just as strong.โ€

Buffon won nine Serie A titles during his time with Juventus and also tasted World Cup glory with Italy in 2006.

He has, however, never been able to get his hands on the coveted Champions League crown and will be hoping to challenge for that elusive honour once again after joining ambitious PSG.

There are a lot of columns on this player across every outlet but none ever seem to address what exactly her concerns are and/or what would it take to get her to play for Norway again. It appears it started due to the Norway womens team not getting the same treatment as the mens team so proper order in putting their foot down until they got that, but as far as it was reported the Norwegians addressed that issue fairly comprehensively and yet she still wonโ€™t play.

Problem is that it doesnโ€™t bring in as much money as the menโ€™s game. You can expect to play in front of a fraction of the crowd and still expect the same money. That said, previous stories of the FAI expecting womenโ€™s teams to hand back gear and be out of pocket for representing their country is crazy. If the womenโ€™s game generates as much money, they should be paid accordingly, but as things stand, it doesnโ€™t.

@Rocky: expenses being equal should be a given. The national team is the national team regardless of gender. There was a time the irish women got about โ‚ฌ30 a day per diem while on international duty or at training camp etc which might not sound much but when you are taking your annual leave from working in the type of job a 21 or 22 year old might have it was nice to have. Of course the Big Cheese pulled that rug out from under them disgracefully.

@Rocky: But most are not talking about appearance money theyโ€™re talking about the basics. Proper kit, proper medical, proper training facilities, showcasing, insurance, and decent expenses. In many cases the latter is way more important as they donโ€™t earn nearly as much as your average Male playerโ€ฆand if they are representing their country, which for most will be the height of media exposure, all of the above is the least they should be getting
