Brian Magee loses WBA title to Dane Kessler

Paddy Hyland, meanwhile, is looking to win the featherweight crown in Las Vegas.

Northern Ireland boxer Brian Magee was defeated by Mikkel Kessler in his WBA super middleweight bout in Herning, Denmark on Saturday night.

The Lisburn fighter was outclassed by his Danish opponent and the referee stopped the contest early in the third round. Magee has lost his WBA crown and a likely bout with IBF champ Carl Froch.

Dubliner Paddy Hyland fights Javier Fortuna for the WBA featerweight ‘interim title’, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, in the early hours of Sunday morning (Irish time).

Great achievement and a great result. Geelong coming good at the right time, with some of their best players due back in the coming weeks. Tuohy and O’Connor anchoring the half back line well. A mention to Colin O’Riordan who had 15 disposals in the Swans big win on Thursday night.

Great to see so many Irish players doing well in the AFL. 200 games is considered a big achievement, so that will be a big milestone.
