'I always strived to be the best and beat the best': Offaly hurling stalwart Carroll retires
COOLDERRY CORNER FORWARD Brian Carroll has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling today after 14 seasons with Offaly.

The 32-year-old made his debut for the Faithful county in 2002 and helped them to a Leinster final in 2004 before captaining his county in 2010.
In a statement released by Offaly GAA today, Carroll adds a third stand-out from his inter-county career:
“Probably most important for me, the general buzz of playing inter-county hurling with and against the best in the country.”
He adds: “Although I have had little success during my inter-county career in terms of silverware, I am most grateful for the career I have had and leave the game with wonderful memories and know that I always strived to be the best and beat the best.”
