Towell to the rescue but league leaders Dundalk drop points at Dalymount

The Lilywhites drew 2-2 with Bohemians thanks to a 93rd-minute equaliser.

Bohemians 2-2 Dundalk

DUNDALK NEEDED AN injury-time equaliser from Richie Towell to avoid defeat to Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

The current SSE Airtricity League Premier Division champions and leaders, unbeaten in the league in nearly two months, fell behind to Keith Buckley’s opener on 17 minutes. Ismahil Akinade crossed from the left and Buckley controlled before shooting past Gary Rogers in the away goal.

Lilywhites skipper Stephen O’Donnell drew them level on the hour-mark after fine work by Daryl Horgan, but the excellent Ismahil Akinade capped a superb performance with a goal 11 minutes from full-time.

Just as it looked as though Keith Long’s men would do the double over their opponents, however, Towell’s deflected effort found its way into the back of the net.

The result and Cork’s win over Galway United means there is now eight points separating the top two.

BOHEMIANS: Delany, Fitzgerald, Prendergast, Best, Hayes, Lopes, Mulcahy, Buckley, Kavanagh (O’Brien 77′), Evans, Akinade (Byrne 90′).

DUNDALK: Rogers, Gannon, Gartland, Boyle, O’Donnell, Horgan, Mountney (Meenan 45′), McMillan, Finn (Maguire 80′), Massey and Towell (Kilduff 67′).
